Trade News - August '24
Hello Koi Keepers,
In this trade catch-up, I thought I'd try something a little different. Having attended the Great British Koi Show on the 24th/25th, I noticed many of our trade sponsors were in attendance, so I interviewed those due an update!
It's not the easiest thing to improvise when you have a camera shoved in your face, but they did incredibly well, and it offers a little insight into what's to come for each of them. Hopefully, they won't hold it against me!
There are also some overviews of a few companies' trade news who wanted to send me information after the show due to how busy things were. Check out the videos below...

Beautiful Koi:
Beautiful Koi were keen to display a great-looking stand at the GBKS. I managed to catch Justin for a brief chat, the subject of which must remain under wraps until it's time for him to release the news, but for those looking at exploring koi outlets in the southwest, give them a shout! https://beautifulkoi.co.uk

Oase:
Oase displayed many products at the GBKS, including their belt/fleece filter. It was the first time I'd seen this in person, and it hit home how important it is to visit koi shows and pay attention to manufacturers' stands. Especially if you plan to build a new pond or upgrade your equipment, as you can see products in the flesh and ask questions, as the Yorkshiremen who put on the show would say - there's nowt better!

World of Nishikigoi - What a month August has been! I've attended a koi show every weekend this month, and (despite coming away with slightly square eyes) I have thoroughly enjoyed meeting so many new koi hobbyists and catching up with others I know well. I've been up and down the country and even popped over to Holland for the famous NVN Holland Koi Show at the new location in Appletern - which was a great success! Here's the Grand Champion...

When attending the shows to photograph the winning koi in the UK, I always have a stand selling copies of the magazine. Printed content is certainly going against the grain in today's world, but I want to thank everyone who has visited the magazine stand at recent shows and picked up a copy. It's so encouraging to see new faces, and the positive feedback from customers new and old makes everything worthwhile. Thank you.
Speaking of which, I'm firing on all cylinders with the next volume of the magazine, and there's lots of exciting content to come. I'm also preparing for the final three UK Koi Shows of 2024. They are...
September
The Mid Staffs Koi Show - 7th/8th September
The All England Koi Show - 21st/22nd September
October
The Junior Koi Show (Birmingham & West Mids) - 5th/6th October
The Final show (The Junior Koi Show) is an Open Show held in Birmingham. Open means anyone can enter their koi, even if they are not a club member. The Junior part means that the largest koi allowed to enter is 65cm (size 5). It's a great way to open up the competition and for smaller koi to win BIG prizes. It was a successful format for the South East Club, but after that show's demise, the Birmingham lot decided to take up the mantle. There's a few exhibitor vats left for those who want to try their hand at showing. The Birmingham and West Midlands Koi Club are no strangers to koi shows, as they have been putting on successful and well-run events for many, many years, and if you want to see a review of a previous show, click here: https://www.worldofnishikigoi.com/post/the-birmingham-west-mids-koi-show-2021
Hopefully, the last three shows of 2024 will be well attended. Koi shows need feet on the ground to keep going, so if you can make it or know others who might, please spread the word and help our great hobby thrive. The shows drive it all!
That's about it for now - take care and stay happy,
Liam
